About the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest in history. For the first time, 48 national teams will compete across 104 matches over 39 days of football — up from 32 teams and 64 matches in Qatar 2022.

It's the first World Cup hosted by three countries: the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Matches will be played across 16 stadiums in 16 cities, including MetLife Stadium (the final), SoFi Stadium, AT&T Stadium, and Estadio Azteca.

The new format features 12 groups of 4 teams. The top two from each group plus the 8 best third-placed teams advance to a 32-team knockout round.
