The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest in history. For the first time, 48 national teams will compete across 104 matches over 39 days of football — up from 32 teams and 64 matches in Qatar 2022.
It’s the first World Cup hosted by three countries: the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Matches will be played across 16 stadiums in 16 cities, including MetLife Stadium (the final), SoFi Stadium, AT&T Stadium, and Estadio Azteca.
The new format features 12 groups of 4 teams. The top two from each group plus the 8 best third-placed teams advance to a 32-team knockout round.
